Conan O'Brien Can't Stop
Feature Film | Rodman Flender By Kristy PuchkoAn often hilarious, yet sometimes disturbing, portrait of a showman on the edge.
In this frenetically paced documentary, Conan O'Brien is laid bare at his breaking point. Capturing the limbo between leaving The Tonight Show and scoring TBS's Conan, Rodman Flender keeps pace with the wild-limbed and wicked-tongued comic as he bounces across the nation on his hectic, but hysterical, Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour. Team Coco will see the dark side of their ginger-haired clown, where he is broken—but not beaten! As he and his team craft an energetic comedy show, Conan struggles with a sometimes-crippling self-doubt and fear of failure that compels him to lash out verbally and even physically at those around him. While it can be shocking, CO'BCS doesn't sully Conan's image as much as it reveals a new dimension to the inexorable, hardworking entertainer. The title seems to become a mantra as Conan races from city to city, show to show, press op to meet-and-greet. A vaudevillian caught outside his era, Conan is addicted to entertaining, and will give everything he has to his audience. We see him in turn exasperated, exhilarated, and exhausted, and the doc becomes a portrait of the painstaking lifestyle of a professional entertainer.
