Burn Notice
TV Series | Matt Nix By Eric SchneiderThe TV version of a mojito.
A spy series that balances action and humor with the dexterity of a well-trained operative, Burn Notice is one of the most undeniably enjoyable shows on television. Created by Matt Nix, the always-engaging program lets the audience tag along with secret agent Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), who abruptly gets cut off from his spy network and all of the amenities of the profession. Unceremoniously dumped in Miami, Michael must try to rebuild his life from scratch and discover who "burned" him. Aiding Michael in his quest, as well as the various investigations that he takes on to keep financially afloat, are his fiery ex-girlfriend, Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar), and Sam Axe (horror/fantasy icon Bruce Campbell), a former Navy SEAL who always happens to know the right guy. With a drink perpetually in his hand, Campbell is a relaxed presence who can get tough if the situation calls for it, while Donovan is effortlessly charming and Anwar is intriguing as an elegant woman with a penchant for explosives. Buoyed by witty scripts and breezy pacing, the comedic chemistry between Donovan, Anwar, and Campbell is perhaps the show's greatest asset, and their easy rapport makes watching the series a consistent pleasure.
