Trailer for Cloud Atlas is visually sumptuous
Based on David Mitchell's ambitious, engaging, and sometimes difficult 2004 novel, Cloud Atlas the movie doesn't appear to be simplifying the book's scope or complexity. Directed by Tom Tykwer and Andy and Lana Wachowski, Cloud Atlas spans the decades from 19th century New Zealand to 1930s Belgium to California in the 1970s to the far future.
The trailer for the feature has just been released and it looks visually sumptuous. It's difficult to say, of course, whether it all works or deepens beyond a "true love conquers all" message underlying all of the terrific razzle-dazzle, but check it out for yourself.
Cloud Atlas stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, James D'Arcy, Ben Whishaw, and Susan Sarandon, to name only a few, and will be released in October.
