The Awakening trailer goes for melancholy over scary
The feature debut by seasoned British television director Nick Murphy, The Awakening could just be another ghost story. However, as this eerie and intriguingly bleak trailer shows, Murphy has given keen attention to the period details of the tale's post-WWI setting, and he also has the benefit of two compelling leads, Rebecca Hall (The Town, Everything Must Go) and Dominic West (The Hour, The Wire).
The luminous Hall manages to elevate every production that she's in, while West is no slouch either, ensuring that this is likely to be one of most impressively acted horror films since, well, The Woman in Black. (Recent years have been good to fans of creepy period pieces.)
Already released in England, The Awakening gets a limited run Stateside starting today in select cities.
