Moody and miasmic Wuthering Heights trailer hits the US
Following Cary Fukunaga's visually luscious adaptation of Jane Eyre last year comes a Wuthering Heights remake, irected by Andrea Arnold. Moody and miasmic, daubed with roiling moors and celadon twilights, Arnold's adaptation is more visceral than previous adaptations, heightened by shaking Handycam shots and tight close-ups. Arnold's choices for Catherine (Skins breakout star Kaya Scodelario) and Heathcliff (the much-hyped James Howson, the first-ever black actor to be chosen for the role) are pitch-perfect. Smoldering stares and tragic love abound alongside the nuanced complexities of interracial relationships and the prejudice that surrounds them. All in all, this trailer catapults the timeless narrative of Wuthering Heights into the 21st century with a startling immediacy.
The film is set for limited release in the US on October 5th.
