Joss Whedon humorously urges boycott of independent filmmaking

Just when we all thought Joss Whedon was a stand-up guy, he turns around and releases this video. Now that The Avengers is reduced to less than 500 theaters, the director feels threatened by the impending Aug. 24 release date of Mike Birbiglia's indie film Sleepwalk with Me, which has been skyrocketed to a whopping 80 theaters due to popular demand. According to Whedon, this "hilarious, interesting, and fun" film may just give The Avengers a challenge at the box office, and we must stop this from happening at all costs.

But honestly, the man has a point: we should never stand for these little indies stealing an ounce of glory from the "corporate spectacle" of Hollywood blockbusters. Thank you, Mr. Whedon, for opening our eyes.
