ABC's newest project seems like a Party Down rip off

ABC has recently purchased a new show called Party Girls, following a party planner with as much tact and profession as a brick who cannot manage her band of misfit employees -- wait a minute, that sounds kind of familiar...

Wasn't there a show from one or two years ago about a party caterer with as much tact and profession as a brick who couldn't control his band of misfit employees? Right, that would be one of the most unfair cancellations on Starz, and television in general, raunchy comedy series Party Down (starring Adam Scott and Lizzy Caplan).

Seems like ABC's attempt to act less like network and more like cable television isn't turning out to be a step in the right direction. Directors and executive producers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (both of Crazy, Stupid, Love fame) should probably explain why they've decided to helm what seems like a blatant rip-off. We get that ABC doesn't typically offer much in the way of tittilating programming, but attempting to be edgy in an unoriginal way seems almost worse, somehow.

Hopefully, as more news surfaces on the project and casting comes into play, ABC and co. can try to be a bit more mindful in differentiating their project from the short-lived Party Down. At least what we can safely assume is that ABC's will be less raunchy (and less fun).
