Trailer for new Jeff Buckley film, not the biopic you're looking for
The trailer for the Jeff Buckley movie, Greetings From Tim Buckley, has finally poked itself out of the woodwork. The haunting generational story surrounds the then unknown singer/songwriter Jeff Buckley’s and his involvement in a 1991 tribute concert for his estranged father, Tim Buckley, in St. Ann’s Church in Brooklyn. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and features Penn Badgley (who debuts his singing voice in the film) as Jeff Buckley, singer/songwriter Kate Nash, and Anthrax’s Frank Bello (as Richard Hell).
If you’re looking for a biopic regarding Buckley, this most likely won't be the first film on your radar. The story will loosely follow the conflicting relationship between Jeff and his father, Tim, who died of an overdose at 28. But in all probability, given the casting of Gossip Girl star Badgley along with the overall production aesthetic in the trailer, the focus seems likely to meander around a romantic interest that will ultimately change him, shake him, or suffer because of him. In the end, there's no escaping the looming reality of Buckley's ultimate and untimely drowning at the age of 30.
