Ryan Gosling's directorial debut to be revoltingly full of celeb friends
With more and more young stars turning writer/director, it's no surprise Ryan Gosling's directorial debut is coming soon. To Catch a Monster, also written by Gosling, is a "macabre and dark fantasy" about a single mother and a secret underworld. Very Pan's Labryinth.
Christina Hendricks was one of the first cast members announced, after working with Gosling on Drive. The two had few brief scenes together, but couldn't stop raving about each other. Other Gosling repeat offenders include Ben Mendelsohn, who appears in Place Beyond the Pines, the Ryan Gosling/Bradley Cooper motorcycle version of Drive, set to release later this year. Gosling also recruited Dr. Who's Doctor, Matt Smith. Soairse Ronan, who is also being courted by Wes Anderson for his next film, will also appear.
In a shocking twist, with only one shared screen credit, Eva Mendes. Mendes, the enemy of all women who love the "Hey Girl" meme, is also currently dating Gosling (gag), and co-stars as his baby mama in Place Beyond the Pines. They also appeared together in College Humor's Drunk History Christmas -- but the chemistry just wasn't there.
We're a bit disappointed that Ryan Gosling seems to have just texted a few of his friends to come be in his movie, and we hope its blend of fantasy and reality, with Gosling at the helm, will be more well thought-out.
