The Third Coming? Brett Anderson hints at new Stone Roses material
According to Suede frontman Brett Anderson, the Stone Roses have written two new songs for their (hopefully) upcoming new album.
Anderson tells NME, "I spoke to Mani [SR bassist Gary Mounfield] a couple of months ago - I saw him at a party - and he'd said they'd written a couple of songs. I'd love to hear some new stuff from them. They were a really special band and I've got a lot of goodwill for them. It'll be nice to hear. Whether it's soon is another matter."
Stone Roses were instrumental in England's Madchester movement, helping pave the way for bands like Flowered Up, Ocean Colour Scene, and the Soup Dragons, and even had a strong influence on Britpop bands such as Oasis. Although they disbanded in 1996, the group reunited in 2012 with a global tour and signed a two-record deal with Universal Records. The new material will be the Roses' first stab at new material since 1994's now ironically-titled Second Coming.
The band is also one of the headlining acts at Coachella this year.
