Set aside 900 hours, because John Peel just hit SoundCloud

This week, the world is collectively thanking SoundCloud user +dB for finding, digitizing, and uploading 458 of celebrated British DJ John Peel's iconic live shows. The anonymous Yorkshire SoundCloud user put together the convenient collection spanning Peel's entire 37 year radio career, making for over 900 hours of audio amazingness.

The compilation begins from Peel's days at the offshore pirate radio station, Radio London, in 1967 and wraps up with Peel's last shows at BBC Radio 1 in 2004, including his famous "Peel Sessions" for the BBC. Up until now, there were no definitive collections of Peel's shows; The John Peel Centre for Creative Arts has been uploading Peel's impressive and extensive music collection into an online, "interactive museum," but until the mysterious +dB came along, there were seemingly no plans to do the same for Peel's radio shows.

Whether he was accidentally starting records at the wrong speed or introducing the world to then-unknown history-changing artists, Peel's signature inimitable broadcasting style and eclectic taste in music made him a legend in the radio world. So, for a new and priceless take on broadening your music education, check out Peel's shows on SoundCloud.
