Purity Ring offers stream of dreamy debut
Montreal dream-pop outfit Purity Ring, made up of Megan James (vocals) and Corin Roddick (instrumentals), have offered up a stream of their debut album, Shrines. NPR is currently allowing listeners to stream the entire album. Their sound is a mix of entrancing vocals, sparkling synth lines, and choppy drum beats.
In April the band dropped their first official single, "Obedear," which was the fourth song anyone had every heard from the band. Early this year, however, they had burst into the music scene unofficially releasing a series singles, including "Ungirthed", and "Bellispeak".
This mysterious-yet-buzzworthy group have also released a video for their track, "Fineshrine", which features a woman gazing upon a bandaged man lying in bed. Other scenes show her slinking around the house in a slow-moving dramatized motion. As she starts to cut the bandages off the man, he evaporates into the sheets. Lying in the same bed, she too vanishes to a faraway place, much like the places listeners are taken while listening to Purity Ring's dream-like symphonies.
Shrines will be released on July 24 through 4AD.
