Neil Young and Crazy Horse preview another Americana track

Okay, so Neil Young is just openly screwing with us. A second track from the upcoming Crazy Horse reunion album, Americana, has been released, and it's just as bad as the shambolic take on "Oh Susannah" that leaked a few weeks ago.

This turgid plod through "God Save the Queen" (the UK national anthem, not the Sex Pistols song) interpolates a verse of "My Country 'Tis of Thee" (based on the same melody) and features the first evidence of the children's choir that supposedly appears on much of the album. It's a complete mess and not the kinda cool ragged-glory mess that Crazy Horse made in its prime.

Nobody can tell Neil Young what to do, of course, and that's what makes Neil Neil: he's entirely willing to release slipshod misfires like this along with the good stuff. Diehard fans can pick up Americana on Reprise Records on June 5. If they must.
