Dave Grohl releases in-studio footage with Sound City supergroup

Dave Grohl's documentary Sound City was officially released last month, and as of March 12 the movie soundtrack, Sound City: Real to Reel, will be available everywhere. In promotion of the soundtrack, Grohl dropped an exclusive, behind-the-scenes video of the writing and recording of "Mantra."

Grohl is joined by Trent Reznor and Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, so clearly he means business. The video shows the artists pensively immersing themselves in a slow-burning crescendo of amazingness, with Grohl's hard-hitting beats, Homme's bass domination, and Reznor's moody piano all building up to the classiest head-banging you'll do this month.

Grohl's Sound City Players ensemble (which features Homme, Reznor, Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick, Stevie Nicks, and Paul McCartney, to name a few) will be performing at SXSX today, March 14. And because Grohl is an OG in rock music, he'll also be the keynote speaker at the fest.
