Alt-rock royalty make macabre tunes for Tim Burton's Frankenweenie
For his upcoming black & white stop-motion-animated oddity, Frankenweenie, Tim Burton has longtime collaborator Danny Elfman resuming his score duties. The film, which focuses on a resurrected dog and his doting owner, also features a soundtrack, entitled Frankenweenie Unleashed!, that showcases songs by The Cure's Robert Smith, Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O, and other artists.
Neither of the aforementioned performers are strangers to fantastical kid-friendly music -- Smith, making a rare solo appearance, contributed a song to the Almost Alice compilation that accompanied Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Karen O handled all of the songs for Spike Jonze's reimagining of Where the Wild Things Are.
Other artists include Grace Potter with The Flaming Lips, Passion Pit, and, hey, even Winona Ryder sings a track. Johnny Depp, strangely enough, is nowhere to be found.
