Tribeca Film Festival Line-up Stuns

Last year, the major complaint at the Tribeca Film Festival was that the star-studded celebration of cinema lacked a clear identity. It was a massive hodgepodge of disparate features that made for a totally overwhelming-if not confounding-selection. Basically, in trying to do it all, TFF was doing little well.

However, in it's 11th year, the Robert De Niro-- founded festival has brought on Frederic Boyer, former artistic director of the Cannes Film Festival, to give TFF a more cogent and compelling line-up. Thankfully, a look at its recently unveiled picks reveals a vast improvement in quality.

There's a blend of celebrity-centered selects like the Opening Night comedy The Five-Year Engagement, with more daring foreign fare like the high-adrenaline French action flick The Sleepless Night, and Sundance hits like Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York and Lynn Shelton's Your Sister's Sister. While the selection is still diverse, it's undoubtedly stronger, spotlighting rising filmmakers and extraordinary cinematic achievements. Simply put, it looks like there'll be plenty here for cinephiles to savor.

The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 18th to April 29th. Check out the full line-up and buy your passes now at Tribecafilm.com.
