Trailer for The Art of War: A Graphic Novel
The new trailer for the upcoming The Art of War: A Graphic Novel, based on Sun Tzu's well-known text on military strategy, brings the comic's pages to life through some effective animation. The trailer's montage of stark black-and-white images – a dangerous-looking prison, a post-apocalyptic landscape, a skyscraper that resembles something out of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner – conjures up plenty of bleak atmosphere while giving away little of the book's actual plot. There's also an elegant classical score that only serves to heighten key moments in the trailer, such as when a character is investigating the contents of a mysterious chest, or a shadowy figure appears.
Written by Kelly Roman and illustrated by Michael DeWeese, The Art of War: A Graphic Novel is set in a future where China is the dominant nation and financial markets are controlled by military power. If the trailer is any indication, it should be full of suspense, action, and buildings with pagodas on top of them. The book is set for release on July 31, 2012.
