Track of the Day: Spiritualized, "Hey Jane"
Spiritualized have just previewed a track from their first album in nearly four years. The full album, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, is due April 17 from Fat Possum Records.
"Hey Jane" is quite possibly Spiritualized leader Jason Pierce's best work since the band's 1997 classic Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating In Space. A nearly nine-minute epic that dusts off that neglected old prog-rock staple the false ending, "Hey Jane" has the forward momentum of a Velvet Underground classic and the hypnotic pulse of vintage krautrock. If the whole album is like this, it's going to be a winner.
Weird album cover, though. "Huh?" indeed.
