The Knife find lust and meaning with new studio album
Dark ambient/trip hop/weird-as-all-holy-hell duo The Knife have announced plans to release their fourth studio album (excluding the Hannah med H soundtrack) in spring 2013. Shaking the Habitual will be out on April 8 around the globe and April 9 in the United States, following up 2006's critically acclaimed Silent Shout.
Between the release of Silent Shout and now, the Swedish brother-sister duo has released music in the form of side projects, such as Karin Dreijer Andersson showing she can be just as deliciously creepy going solo as Fever Ray, and Olof Dreijer taking on DJ duties across Europe as DJ Coolof and releasing his own solo material under the Oni Ayhun pseudonym. The group also managed to fit in writing an opera with DJ Mt. Sims and British electronic singer Planningtorock for the Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma in 2009, but Shaking the Habitual marks the first studio album by the band in almost seven years. The Olofs have also announced plans for a European tour following the release of the album.
In true Knife style, the band released a simple yet enigmatic tweet on December 12, stating, "Music can be so meaningless. We had to find lust. We asked our friends and lovers to help us." And to add to the 12/12/12 declaration drama, the duo also released a cryptic teaser trailer as an announcement for the spring album release -- check it out below.
