Sugar Man hitting the road

Once-forgotten Detroit singer-songwriter Rodriguez will be on an extensive North American tour this fall, following the release of the highly-acclaimed documentary Searching For Sugar Man. The film, chronicling his short early-'70s career and subsequent rediscovery in far-flung locales like South Africa and Australia, has fueled an even greater interest in this talented musician, a sort of Mexican-American Nick Drake whose departure from the music scene was so complete that for years urban legends whispered that he had committed suicide onstage.

Following appearances at the Newport Folk Festival and Sweden's Way Out West Festival in July and August, the tour begins in Washington DC on August 30 and ends in Cleveland on November 3. Full tour dates are located at Sugarman.Org, the fansite (named, as is the film, for Rodriguez's song about a drug dealer, his best-known composition) that helped track down the reclusive Sixto Rodriguez.
