Six Organs of Admittance goes to 11

For most of its lifetime, Six Organs of Admittance has been Ben Chasny and an acoustic guitar. Chasny's no stranger to electricity, however -- he used to be in psych-noise act Comets On Fire -- and 14 years after his first solo release as Six Organs of Admittance, he's formed a full-band electric lineup. The resulting album, Ascent, comes out August 21 on Drag City Records.

Based on the opening track "Waswasa," Ascent is well-removed from the drone-folk spaciness that characterizes much of Six Organs' work: it's a noisy, riff-based heavy rock instrumental, taken at a faster tempo than you might expect: think Status Quo, not Black Sabbath.
