Robert Downey Jr. gets his Iron Man 3 on
Returning to Comic-Con in fitting post-Avengers conquering-hero fashion, a lively Robert Downey Jr. headlined a panel on the upcoming Iron Man sequel, imaginatively entitled Iron Man 3.
Joined by co-star Don Cheadle, franchise mastermind/supporting actor Jon Favreau, directorial successor Shane Black, and producer Kevin Feige, the actor quipped mightily with his collaborators after a grand entrance wearing one of his signature armored gloves. Riffing off of Downey Jr.'s similarities to his Iron Man alter ego, Tony Stark, Cheadle worked in a playful dig at the uninhibited lead, calling him "a rich asshole."
Clearly very comfortable with his success, Downey Jr., in referring to The Avengers, mused, "I think every movie I ever do is going to be one of the three biggest movies ever, and it finally happened."
As far as Iron Man 3 itself, teasing clips were shown, including one that winkingly nods to Favreau's shift in duties and another that introduces Ben Kingsley's sinister villain, the Mandarin.
Marvel's definitely had a killer run with their recent films, and it appears that Iron Man 3, due next May, will keep it going.
