Photo of the Day: Janaina Tschäpe's, "Acqua Alta 1"

In context of Janaina Tschäpe's 's body of work (and the series from which it was taken), this image contemplates the relationship between femininity and the natural world, one of her prevailing themes.

But take it as testament to this Brooklyn-based, German/Brazilian artist's aesthetic sense that on its own, the photo poses a multitude of totally distinct but equally evocative associations.  Against a blurred pastoral a hooded effigy, shaped by nature but personified by our eye, contemplates what lies past a horizon we too can only imagine?  There's room in its ambiguity for a multitude of myths.
