No big surprises in Coachella 2012 lineup
The Coachella 2012 lineup is out, featuring the usual blend of current indie stars and increasingly mainstream big names. The Black Keys, Radiohead and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg headline Friday through Sunday nights, respectively.
Despite widespread rumors that the recently reformed (minus bassist Peter Hook) New Order would show, the big reunion names this year are a somewhat underwhelming lot. The big names in old bands are Britpop cult heroes Pulp, slowcore pioneers Mazzy Star, post-rock leviathan Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mike Watt and George Hurley's post-Minutemen effort firehose, and second-generation prog-rockers At the Drive-In.
Critical Mob faves on deck include (on Friday) M83, Girls, Yuck, and Neon Indian; (on Saturday) Bon Iver, Jeff Mangum, St. Vincent, Destroyer, Tune-Yards, and We Were Promised Jetpacks; (on Sunday) Beirut, Wild Flag and Real Estate.
Coachella 2012 runs the weekends of April 13-15 and April 20-22, near Indio, California. Bring sunscreen. Yes, it's two weekends this year: the same lineups play both weekends.
