New app keeps Shakespeare alive in the digital age

Even William Shakespeare can't escape the assiduous world of digital publishing. A new app from Faber and Touch Press plans to bring new life to Shakespeare's poetry collection The Sonnets. The collection has been published electronically before, though, the latest edition will include videos of a celebrity cast reading all 154 sonnets. The line up includes Sir Patrick StewartKim Cattrall, Stephen Fry, and plenty others. Each recorded sonnet will be accompanied by the complete Arden Shakespeare text, including all annotations and notes.

The app will also include a collection of interviews and commentaries with leading scholars. Faber and Touch Press is no stranger to literature based apps, having previously created an interactive version of T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland, which included various audio recordings of Eliot himself, and a filmed performance of Fiona Shaw reading the poem in its entirety.
