Neil Marshall hits high seas with serious pirate series Black Sails
He's taken on werewolves (Dog Soldiers), feral cave creatures (The Descent), post-apocalyptic warriors (Doomsday), and even Romans and Picts (Centurion), but now British director Neil Marshall has his sights set on pirates with the upcoming television series Black Sails.
Marshall, who has also unsurprisingly helmed an installment of Game of Thrones, will direct the pilot episode of the Starz show, developed by Robert Levine and Jon Steinberg. The series will be a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, following the exploits of Captain Flint and his crew, who are joined by a young buccaneer named John Silver.
The first episode will likely be filmed this year, with an eye on a 2014 debut. Meanwhile Marshall is also attached to the Dracula-related film The Last Voyage of the Demeter, which has had Viggo Mortenson and Noomi Rapace circling as potential cast.
Check out Marshall's way with a battle sequence in this impressive and exceptionally bloody scene from Centurion.
