Maurice Sendak gets crotchety on Colbert

In a hilarious two-part sit-down with Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report, celebrated children's author 84-year old Maurice Sendak matched curmudgeonly barbs (all in good fun) with the faux-news show host in discussing the state of children's literature. Among the highlights: in response to Colbert paraphrasing Newt Gingrich's views on the work ethic of children, Sendak declared Gingrich "an idiot...there is something so hopelessly gross and vile about him...so let's not take him seriously".

Plus there's the delightfully insane segment at the conclusion in which Sendak sniffs markers, draws a Polish pole dancer, and sings about remembering Pearl Harbor. Trust us, you just have to watch the videos.
