Jack White taps Gary Oldman to direct webcast
Whoever Jack White wants, Jack White gets. In this case, it's Academy Award-nominated actor Gary Oldman, who was personally selected by Mr. White to direct a live concert webcast at Webster Hall on April 27, promoting the April 24 release of White's first solo album Blunderbuss.
Joining the ranks of past collaborators like Loretta Lynn, Jimmy Page, and Wanda Jackson, Oldman seems like an unusual choice. But while better known for playing eccentric characters on screen, Oldman's previous directorial work includes the BAFTA award-winning family drama Nil by Mouth.
This webcast is the latest installment of the American Express UNSTAGED series, a two-year-old program with a history of pairing musicians with big-name directors: Arcade Fire with Terry Gilliam, My Morning Jacket with Todd Haynes, and Coldplay with Anton Corbijn. The show will stream live on White's VEVO channel beginning at 9 pm Eastern.
