Hotel accepting art as payment

The Clarion Hotel Stockholm has taken a cue from the former Chelsea Hotel in New York City by allowing guests to trade artwork in exchange for a free stay. The deal is valid for two nights a year per artist. Clarion's General Manager proposed the idea of the art exchange after the recent closing of the Chelsea, which housed some of his own grandfather's paintings. The only requirement is that the artwork fits on an A4 piece of paper and must be signed, besides that anything goes-- even those finger paintings you did as a child (or a stoned teenager, for that matter) could qualify you for a night's stay at the innovative Swedish inn.

The Clarion has long been an encouraging environment for art and music, hosting exhibitions periodically and curating several DJ nights a week in addition to having their own radio station, Clarion Radio. By launching this art-for-room concept the hotel hopes to secure itself as the go-to art destination of Sweden. With the overwhelming amount of submissions already received it seems they have succeeded.
