Hedi Slimane back at YSL
Designer and photographer Hedi Slimane, formerly of Dior Homme, has just been officially named the creative director of YSL. Slimane actually had worked for YSL once before, back in the late '90s under former creative director Stefano Pilati. Fashion insiders see this as a very bold move by PPR, YSL's parent company- an attempt at a complete overhaul of the brand by bringing in the fresher, younger Slimane. What's makes the move even more daring is that Slimane, being synonymous with a particularly mod and sleek sort of menswear aesthetic, has yet to ever create a womenswear collection.
We're optimistic, however, that as others are saying, Slimane could raise the bar for YSL in a similar way that Pheobe Philo did for Chloé after Stella McCartney's departure.
