Google Maps launches 3D photo tours of global landmarks

Snap-happy tourists have always been chalked up as a nuisance of international travel, but it seems that something good may actually have come of it.

Using public, user-contributed Picasa and Panaromio photos, the brains over at Google Maps have created 3D photo tours of famous landmarks around the world.

With over 15,000 locations, this newest strain of cyber tourism let's you view landmarks from every angle using advanced computer vision techniques. Giving us one more reason to never leave our homes. All these tours require is access to Google Maps with WebGL. See it in action below.
