George Clooney to produce film adaptation of August: Osage County
On the heels of the success of The Ides of March, which he also produced, George Clooney has joined the production of a Weinstein Company-backed adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play August: Osage County as a producer. The project, which has already snagged Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep to star, joins Clooney with frequent collaborator Grant Heslov (with whom he worked on Ides and Good Night and Good Luck). Clooney seems excited to begin working on adapting the play, expressing how "honored [he is] to help bring it to the screen."
The Oklahoma-set dark comedy has won numerous awards as a Broadway darling, and the adaptation is made all the more promising considering that the play's author, Tracy Letts, is penning the screenplay. I think it's high time we started referring to him as actor/producer George Clooney.
