Gagosian sued

Notorious trouble-magnet and art dealer Larry Gagosian is in hot water once again. Previously accused of selling paintings he had no authority to, running afoul of Uncle Sam for back taxes, announcing the death of artist Richard Hamilton without his family's consent, and losing a copyright case in 2011, thee dealer is now being accused of selling a 1964 Lichtenstein without the consent of its rightful owner. Jan Cowles, 93, (who is thought to be suffering from dementia it must be pointed out) accused him of buying the work from Cowles' son, who she says had no authority to sell it.

To make a tangled web even more tangled, Gagosian is also accused of falsely claiming the painting was damaged and selling it to a third party at a cut rate while claiming a cool $1 million commission. The case comes on the heels of yet another similar case in 2009, which was settled out of court. Let's see how this one plays out for the art world's favorite villain.
