From the chillwave fog, new Memory Tapes album to emerge
Hail Social frontman Dayve Hawk’s solo career has had a hazy development. Memory Tapes, as he is now known, has emerged like a figure taking shape from within a thick fog. At one time a staple member of the terminable chillwave legion, Memory Tapes has migrated to electropop territory for better or for worse -- it usually just depends on the track.
The synth master will serenade anew with Grace/Confusion, an album to be released December 4th via Carpark Records. The eight and a half minute-long single “Sheila,” released in April 2012, intimates Memory Tapes now has a story to tell, in contrast with the exploration we bore witness to on previous recordings. If his recent mini-mix is any indication, it’s going to be a good story.
