First trailer for Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher

Forget Katie Holmes, forget Scientology: this is what Tom Cruise is all about. In the debut trailer for Jack Reacher (formerly titled One Shot and based on the novel by Lee Child), all the modern action movie clichés are in place: a rogue agent with nothing to lose, a mysterious plot and a hefty amount of intricate hand-to-hand combat scenes.

Also starring Rosamund Pike and Robert Duvall, Jack Reacher has fallen under heavy scrutiny for the casting choice of  Cruise as the eponymous antihero, who stands a whopping 6'5 in the novels. According to author Lee Child in a Deadline Hollywood interview, "Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way." We have to agree -- has no one seen the Mission: Impossible series?

Jack Reacher crashes into theaters December 21.
