Evangeline Lilly reveals more about the Hobbit films
With her Tolkienesque name and fair features, Evangeline Lilly is a perfect fit to play an elf in writer/director/producer Peter Jackson's upcoming two-part adaptation of The Hobbit, and she recently gave more clues to her role in the movies.
The former Lost actress explains in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview that she'll be portraying Tauriel, an elven warrior created specifically for the films by Jackson and his wife and co-writer/producer Fran Walsh. While the most ardent J.R.R. Tolkien fans will likely consider this to be a blasphemous move, Jackson and Walsh have shown that they can tinker with the revered author's work in a way that improves his tales cinematically, so Lord of the Rings aficionados should feel confident in this development.
Those who can't wait to see Lilly in elven action will have to keep in mind that she'll only be in the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, briefly, and will factor more heavily in its 2013 sequel, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, when Jackson and company will dive headfirst into uncharted waters of Tolkien lore.
