Don't hate on Damien Hirst honoring Joe Strummer
Damien Hirst is known for a lot of things: being annoying, his status as the wealthiest artist alive -- one might even consider him the Lady Gaga of the art world depending on who you talk to. Joe Strummer, on the other hand, is only known for one thing: being one of the most amazing people ever. So, upon hearing the news that Hirst has painted two guitars in commemoration of the ten-year anniversary of Strummer's death, one might be turned off. However, the proceeds go to Strummer's charity, and no one can hate on that.
The first guitar is a Fender Telecaster sporting Hirst's well-known polka dots. The second, an Eastwood acoustic, is donned with the artist's famous spin-paint treatment. Both instruments will be raffled off at the Strummer of Love Festival with The Clash's own Mick Jones drawing the winning tickets. The festival takes place from August 17th to 19th in Blackdown Hills, Somerset. In the meantime, the guitars will be on display at the Other Criteria gallery in London.
