Dive into the muted tones of The xx's new video

The xx recently unleashed a video for “Chained” off their sophomore album Coexist. The largely underwater video is a slow motion, muted, green-tinged take on the song, and essentially consists of the three members of the band individually jumping into open water during what appears to be the onset of storm. There they remain below the surface sinking. Then they coagulate together just as the storm clears and swim up for air.

Take from it what you will, it’s shot wonderfully. Made by the Creators Project and directed by the Young Replicant team (who also did Purity Ring’s “Fineshrine” video, for those who noticed the resemblance). The xx are also on tour in support of their new album, so, if you're in the New York City area check them out at Loews Paradise Theater this weekend.

Watch the video for “Chained” below.
