David Wain confirms Wet Hot sequel

When we recently sat down with writer/director David Wain to discuss his latest effort, Wanderlust, we asked him to weigh in on the prospects of a Wet Hot American Summer sequel. The cult-adored comedy crafter set the record straight, declaring, "I can tell you from the horse's mouth--we are writing a script, and we are putting together serious plans, so that once the script is written, we will get--hopefully--very quickly into shooting this movie."

Though Wet Hot came out more than a decade ago, the cult comedy has been making headlines lately with revived news that a sequel might be on the way. Hot on the heels of a radio-play reenactment performed by part of the original cast, the film's co-writer and star Michael Showalter told Bravo's Watch What Happens Live that the long-rumored sequel was "absolutely" on its way. However, before devotees could celebrate with a fresh wave of fan art, Showalter's Stella cohort and Wet Hot co-star Michael Ian Black tweeted, "I really don't think this is true."

With Wain confirming our hopes and suspicions, we can now start looking forward to casting news. How much of the original crew will return?

Check back here on Monday for the full interview, and keep a lookout for other Wainy postings throughout the week.
