Cover art deserves a second look: The NY Art Book Fair

Printed Matter's NY Art Book Fair is an annual collection of artists and great minds behind the aesthetics of books -- be it cover art, periodicals, catalogs, or collections. Finally, that time of the year is here to examine and judge (and maybe snicker at) the art covering, leading, and filling books far beyond their text. MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, Queens houses the event in which audiences can weave their way in and out of the classrooms of the old schoolhouse-turned-museum, leafing through tables, walls, stands and booths of books, tempted with fresh brewed coffee and intriguing conferences debating copyright laws and the (im)morality of appropriation art.

This year, photographic curator Andrew Roth presents his rare look into the 60s and 70s through drab and minimalism, while relatively new World Food Books present their contemporary outlook: bright, but strict collection of books directly available for purchase. Polish IT! The Worst Magazine Ever takes a stand, boasting their raunchy, fun, and sick bi-annual journal of all types of artists and critics. The collection and personalities of artists seem never-ending and will surely be wildly exciting to absorb within just a matter of hours.
