Comics icon Stan Lee going digital
The Marvel Comics brand has never been stronger, so it's probably high time that the creator behind many of its most popular and enduring characters stood front and center at his own official web site.
February 7, 2012, marks the launching date of TheRealStanLee.com, courtesy of Stan Lee, who co-created superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, and The Hulk during the 1960s. More recently, he has served as an executive of POW! Entertainment, LLC, helping produce or write original films and reality television series. The new site will help market POW!'s current and future stable of properties. However, according to a video announcement by Lee regarding TheRealStanLee.com, it will also offer viewers a behind-the-scenes look at comic book conventions and industry events.
The tone of the three-minute promotional spot is pretty light-hearted, downright goofy when viewed side-by-side the trailers for the upcoming Spider-Man, The Avengers, and Batman movies. Only time will tell, but TheRealStanLee.com could be a much-needed antidote to how superheroes have been portrayed in mainstream culture as of late, which has been serious and painfully gloomy at times.
