Clip of the Day: Ricky Gervais' Derek

Ricky Gervais' new mockumentary, Derek, hasn't even aired yet, but already it's causing a stir. The controversial British comedian recently tweeted a string of teasers for the show, and almost immediately many responded with scorn, accusing Gervais of making fun the mentally handicapped with his jut-jawed portrayal of the title character.

We at CM have enough faith in Gervais to believe there's more than meets the eye with his clearly dopey Derek. Though he's often accused of being insulting, Gervais is typically more nuanced and satirical than his attackers are willing to acknowledge. And, as Gervais himself is fond of saying, "Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right."

Derek, which co-stars Gervais' longtime, long-suffering friend Karl Pilkington (An Idiot Abroad, The Ricky Gervais Show) will premiere April 12th in the UK on Channel 4.
