Austin Psych Fest announces lineup, offers free mixtape

Wanna go to Austin this spring but think SxSW has gotten way too mainstream? The fifth annual Austin Psych Fest runs the weekend of April 27-29. The reformed Brian Jonestown Massacre will headline, hopefully without any of the onstage punchups that enlivened the 2004 documentary Dig!.

Presented and curated by Austin psych vets Black Angels, the official lineup also features a number of Critical Mob psych-pop and space rock favorites, including The Olivia Tremor Control, Wooden Shjips, Woods, and MMOSS. Other high-profile names on the bill include Disappears, featuring new drummer Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth; Black Mountain's psych-pop alter ego The Pink Mountaintops; and Moon Duo, the krautrock-inspired side project of Wooden Shjips' Ripley Johnson.

Full festival tickets cost $100 and are on sale now. A free downloadable mixtape featuring 23 of the announced bands is available at Bandcamp.
