Americano Trailer: Separation and Grief

What captures us is Salma Hayek on a pole but what keeps us there is the deeply emotional story of Martin (Mathieu Demy) as he deals with the wounds still fresh from his mother's recent death. Very early on Martin is shown to have little knowledge of his mother as he feels she abandoned him when he was a child. Martin moves from France to Los Angeles in this film thus building on the real life experiences of the director Mathieu Demy's life with star studded parents, filmmakers Agnes Varda and Jacques Demy. While the leading ladies in the French film are Chiara Mastroianni and Geraldine Chaplin, the star is Hayek who seems to solidify the piece. She plays a Mexican stripper from Tijuana named Lola who finds new ways to let grudges go. The two create an interesting balance that keeps the audience watching and traveling through Martin's battle with grief.
