American Psycho to tour as stage musical
Those of us who remember reading American Psycho when it was first published in 1991 were surprised enough when Mary Harron adapted the vicious critique of American consumerism into a big-budget blockbuster in 2000. So mark 2012 as the year of surprises, as Bret Easton Ellis's novel is being set this time to tour as a musical with songs by Duncan Sheik, who also wrote the music to Broadway hit Spring Awakening. The adaptation is being produced by British company Headlong, with direction by Rupert Goold and book by TV and comic book writer Robert-Aguirre Sarcasa. Details on locations, dates and casting remain scarce, probably until the show can line up licensing for all those Genesis and Whitney Houston songs.
