AMC renews Comic Book Men
Kevin Smith's non-scripted reality series Comic Book Men was renewed by AMC on Wednesday. Any fan of Smith knows that the guy loves to gab-- the show features Smith and his old high school buddies Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Mike Zapcic, and Ming Chen hanging out and working at Smith's comic book shop in New Jersey, chatting about everything from Star Wars to action figures to movie memorabilia.
A longtime comic book fan and a writer, Smith bought the shop in 1997 and rebranded it Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. The store has featured in several of his movies, most notably in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and plenty of props from his own productions are prominently displayed there.
Comic Book Men, which ran for six one-hour shows this past winter, will be expanded to 16 episodes, but its running time will be slashed to a half-hour. Smith and his geeky cohorts also discuss their love of comics and whatever else on the podcast The Secret Stash, which was broadcast after each episode and will presumably be back as well.
