Almost all of Monty Python reunite
After 29 long years, nearly all the remaining members of Monty Python will work together in a new film. Terry Jones has just announced that fellow Python members John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, and Michael Palin have been cast as the voices of all-powerful CGI aliens in a sci-fi comedy film he wrote and co-directed, Absolutely Anything-- also starring comedian/Daily Show correspondent John Oliver. There are conflicting reports as to whether or not Eric Idle has officially signed on as one of the aliens. At the very least, Gilliam has told Variety that producers are actively coercing Idle.
Based on a script that the film's producer Mike Medavoy developed with Jones 20 years ago, the plot setup involves an earthling (Oliver) granted enormous superpowers by the Python-voiced aliens; surely, a farcical romp ensues. Even if it's not an "official" Monty Python film, Gilliam asserts that it "...certainly has [a Monty Python] sensibility". It's been a long wait.
