Alaïa boutique planned for Avenue Montaigne
Azzedine Alaïa has never been a household name. He's always, however, been a mainstay to fashion insiders. Why? His clothes are so sexy, editors and super models have been beating a path to his atelier for decades. He's the king of the gored mini. The tiny Tunisian wonder has even been known to comfort test his own dresses. And his pyrotechnical seaming is so sculptural, its practically ergonomic-- that is, if you consider cocktail dresses performance apparel.
Now, we mortals can see what all the fuss is about at Alaïa's new Avenue Montaigne store, slated to open in Paris next spring. Its the first time in decades he's opened his doors to retail-- he had several stores in the 1980s-- but it was simply a matter of time: his clothes have been creeping back onto the red carpet for several seasons now, and sexy is never out of style. Still, knowing the designer's antipathy for the commercial side of the fashion, you may need to know someone to find your way to the store.
