A.C. Newman leaves the farm for barn burning tour
New Pornographers leader A.C. Newman has announced a fall North American tour to coincide with his third solo album. The as-yet-unnamed album is due this fall on Matador Records in the US and Last Gang Records in Canada and Europe. The 15-date tour begins October 21 at Lee's Palace in Toronto (part of a series of concerts celebrating the 20th anniversary of Canadian alt-weekly newspaper Exclaim!) and wraps up November 14 at The Casbah in San Diego. One assumes that last venue will indeed be rocked. Full tour dates are available at Newman's website.
Newman's last solo abum, 2009's Get Guilty, was a bit more personal than his New Pornographers work, dealing -- obliquely, as his lyrics almost always are -- with the upheaval of his life following his divorce, subsequent remarriage and move from his native Vancouver to New York. If his Twitter feed is any indication, Newman's life on a farm in upstate New York is considerably more settled these days, so perhaps the new album will deal mostly with maple sugaring and barn repairs.
In the meantime, enjoy this live performance of a song from Newman's last solo album, 2009's Get Guilty.
