Your brain on dub: The Orb collaborate with Lee Scratch Perry

What do you get when you mix the godfather of dub with the pioneers of ambient house? The ultimate chillout album, of course.

Ambient kings The Orb have teamed up with dub legend Lee "Scratch" Perry for The Orbserver in the Star House, a collaborative album set for release on September 3. Both The Orb and Perry have worked with various artists in the past; The Orb worked with Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour for 2010's critically acclaimed Metallic Spheres, and Perry's 50+ years career has had him associated with numerous acts, including Dub Syndicate, Mad Professor, and The Clash.

Although Orb co-founder Alex Paterson DJed with Perry way back when, deciding on a collaborative album only happened earlier this year during recording sessions in Berlin. "I met Lee for the first time during this session and it was pretty touching to see how an unexpected connection and inspirational exchange could so awaken our creative juices," says The Orb's Thomas Fehlmann in a press release.

The new album will feature reworkings of The Orb's superjam, "Little Fluffy Clouds" (renamed "Golden Clouds") and Perry's classic 1976 Junior Murvin hit "Police and Thieves." Check out the silky beats of "Golden Clouds" below.
